[long bio] Composer, sound designer, and controllerist Adam Cuthbért (b. 1988) is a native of Detroit working with acoustic and digital instruments to synthesize sound environments. Active performing his own work as well as composing, Cuthbért’s music has been performed around the world at MASS MoCA, Constellation (Chicago), Center for New Music (SF), Kingston University (London), LPR (NYC) and Roulette (Brooklyn) by cutting-edge ensembles such as Bang on a Can, Friction Quartet, and Third Coast Percussion, and in collaboration with pop and electronic acts Almamy, RETCON, Julius, and Todd Reynolds, garnering notice from the The New York Times, Backstage Magazine, DJ Mag, and SF Chronicle, which finds it "hard to resist the vigor and inventiveness of his writing".

Recent commissioned projects include universe explosion (two versions commissioned by Bang on a Can and Friction Quartet), 7AM: di Mattina with experimental opera-­theatre company Pioneers Go East Collective, democracy looks like, for four amplified kalimbas (Third Coast Percussion), and several rooms away from their source, co-written with Daniel Rhode and premiered simultaneously in the UK, Netherlands, and US (London Cultural Olympiad). New works for forthcoming ensembles Echo Chamber and GVSU New Music Ensemble are in the works.

He has given guest workshops on arts technology and utilizing interactive sound processes in composed music at universities around the country, such as the City University of New York, Shenandoah University, University of Northern Colorado, and Grand Valley State University. His work has been the topic of lectures and performances at the International Trumpet Guild Conference. Cuthbért frequently accompanies for dance courses at CUNY Hunter College.

Cuthbért began working with choreographer Maura Donohue while composing for Pioneers Go East Collective at La MaMa and Incubator Arts Project in 2011, and have together have developed works for Roulette, The Asia Society, La MaMa Moves, L'Galleria, & the West End Theatre. The Tides Project, the creative duo's ongoing multimedia project examining the facets of Earth’s oceans in the Anthropocene, has been featured at Women in Motion's Soaking WET program, New York Theatre Workshop, and The Club @ La MaMa.

Cuthbért’s recording discography spans myriad styles and labels, with composition and production credits to dream world (slashsound), an EP of hybrid-electronic chamber music, CONSTITUENT (slashsound) with industrial/spectral techno project, I-VT, 1130161116 (slashsound) by environmental sound duo skullcap5050, and five releases including synthetic flora and accelerator (slashsound) with introverted ambient artist, kuuma. He is credited as a sound designer on Almamy’s Digital Love (ModyWorks), performer on Terry Riley: In C (Ghostly International), and contributed a fixed-media work on Sonic Flux (EMPiRES).

Also active on the industry side, Cuthbért is Assistant Label Manager for the Grammy-winning alt-classical label Cantaloupe Music, and Artistic Director and co-founder of the label and collective slashsound, where he is highlighting a growing community of trans-media artists working with hybrid electronic/acoustic instruments.

Cuthbért lives in Flatbush, Brooklyn with his wife, Rebecca, and cats, 健三 & 千代.
