Adam Cuthbért (b. 1988) is a Detroit-born sound designer, controllerist, and co-founder of the record label/collective slashsound. His work cross-breeds acoustic instruments with digital audio processes to create immersive sound worlds, evoking synthesized images of abstract environments, and has garnered notice from the the New York Times, Backstage Magazine, DJ Mag, and the San Francisco Chronicle, which finds it “hard to resist the vigor and inventiveness of his writing.” Cuthbért has collaborated with cutting-edge ensembles such as Friction Quartet, Third Coast Percussion, and Bang on a Can, as well as electronic artists Almamy, Todd Reynolds, and RETCON. He is a member of environmental sound duo skullcap5050, industrial/spectral techno project I-VT, introverted ambient artist KuuMA, and is a regular collaborator with choreographer Maura Donohue (#tidesproject, zero...sixty at Roulette Intermedium). He has created sound works for dance and theatre with inmixedcompany, Shawn Bible Dance, Pioneers Go East Collective, The Asia Society, La MaMa Moves, and New York Theatre Workshop. His recording discography includes artistic credits in the catalogs of Ghostly International, ModyWorks, people places records, and slashsound, with releases forthcoming on Innova and UPA Records. Also active on the industry side, Cuthbért is Licensing Manager for the Grammy-winning alt-classical label Cantaloupe Music. He lives in Flatbush, Brooklyn with his wife, Rebecca, and cats, 健三 & 千代.
