Adam Cuthbért (b. 1988) is a Detroit-born sound designer, controllerist, and co-founder of the record label/collective slashsound. His work cross-breeds acoustic instruments with digital processes to create immersive synthesized sound environments, garnering notice from NPR, The New York TimesBackstage Magazine, DJ Mag, and the San Francisco Chronicle, which finds it “hard to resist the vigor and inventiveness of his writing.” Cuthbért has collaborated with cutting-edge ensembles such as Friction Quartet, Third Coast Percussion, and Bang on a Can, as well as electronic artists RETCON, Almamy, and Todd Reynolds. He performs with the environmental sound duo skullcap5050, spectral techno project I-VT, introverted ambient project KuuMA, and is a regular collaborator with choreographer Maura Donohue (#tidesproject, zero...sixty at Roulette Intermedium). He has created sound works for dance and theatre with inmixedcompany, Shawn Bible Dance, Pioneers Go East Collective, The Asia Society, La MaMa Moves, and New York Theatre Workshop. His recording discography includes artistic credits in the catalogs of Ghostly International, ModyWorks, people places records, Innova, UPA Records, and slashsound. Also active on the industry side, Cuthbért is Licensing Manager for the Grammy-winning alt-classical label Cantaloupe Music. He lives in Flatbush, Brooklyn with his wife, Rebecca, and cats, 健三 & 千代.
