present.tense (progressive) is a “solo” work conceived, scored and performed by Maura Nguyen Donohue in collaboration with sound composer Adam Cuthbért and movement composer Aretha Aoki. Inspired by Yvonne Meier’s score-based work, present.tense (progressive) is an examination of immediacy in exchange and response systems between 3 artists on stage. Each night, Donohue, in movement, and Cuthbért, in sound, enacted selections from a range of movement scores and sound arrangements that Aoki determined and declared in a contest of authorship. present.tense (progressive) considers evolving states of being within rapidly changing categories of ongoing movement that result in a collaborative creation out of autonomous actions.
