TRANSITS is a collection of five reflective landscapes to commemorate a major transitionary period of external and internal evolution. Nostalgia and optimism are the urgent feelings. The sounds were woven from field recordings, synthesizers and orchestral instruments.
The tracks were recorded between summer 2020 and summer 2021, across a period of time where deep uncertainty of literally everything rendered my vision of the future opaque. Suddenly the pacing at which everything in my world was shifting felt fast and inexorable. I had to envision a new sense of home, and of self within place, different from what I had for so long thought was permanent.
I sculpted these sound worlds in my bedroom studio, played them as loudly as I could stand it, sequencing and filtering a network of warm, cozy resonances to envelop myself calmly within, as a manner of rebuffing the rising wave of collective existential panic.
being bewildered by newness in a very different, yet familiar place
tapping from chaos until a new rhythm is routine
adapting to a motor city while dearly missing mass transit
A permutation of Detroit’s transit map
recalibrating independently of oppressive binary imperatives
synchronizing with a more authentic self image
searching for emotional balance in yoga and meditation practice
leaning into my Aquarius sign and the metaphorical exercises within astrological transits

eulogizing the end of an era

This variance in production was recorded for the Festival of New Trumpet Music and premiered on FONT: Brass without Borders, September 2021.
